Okay, sis already read through the almost 200 pages of amendments in the Sabah & Sarawak Labour Ordinances (SLOs). 😮💨
In short, these updates are to align SLOs with the current Employment Act 1955 and the Employees’ Minimum Standards of Housing Accommodations and Amenities Act 1990.
So, here are the some key highlights of the upgraded benefits matching the Employment Act today:
1. Maternity Leave
• Before: 60 consecutive days (after 28 weeks pregnant)
• Now: 98 consecutive days (after 22 weeks pregnant)
2. Paternity Leave
• Before: Tidak ada
• Now: 7 consecutive days (T&Cs apply)
3. Public Holiday
• Before:
– When 2 holidays coincide, no mandory replacement
– Malaysia Day & Sarawak Independence Day not compulsory
– Sabah min 14 days | Sarawak min 16 days
• Now:
– When 2 holidays fall on the same day, 1 must be replaced
– Malaysia Day & Sarawak Independence Day are compulsoy (cannot make fun of this already me 😅)
– Sabah min 15 days | Sarawak min 18 days (grand Sarawak!)
4. Working Hours
• Before: Max 48 hours/week
• Now: Max 45 hours/week
5. Hospitalisation Leave
• Before: 60 days (inclusive of sick leave (MC))
• Now: 60 days separate from sick leave (MC) entitlement
