I’ve been in sales and operations long enough to know one thing:
If the deal matters, you send your best.
You don’t send the intern.
You don’t send someone clueless.
You don’t send a person that you can’t even trust yourself.
You send the person who listens, thinks, responds, and represents your company well. It’s something I was taught early in my career – if the conversation is important, show it by who you send to the table.
Now, I don’t think I’m such a big deal.
But if you show up to speak on behalf of your company completely unprepared, unable to answer basic questions, as diva as it sounds, I can’t help but feel disrespected.
This isn’t about ego.
It’s about effort.
Respect is shown not just in what you say, but in who you send to say it.
And if something escalates and it’s serious? I don’t delegate.
I personally pick up the phone – to show sincerity, accountability, and effort.
Because that’s what I would expect from others too.
