POV: Criticism

“In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.” – Sun Tzu

Hard criticism is never fun.

It shakes your confidence.

It makes you spiral.

You replay the words in your head 10 times. Then 50.

But here’s the truth I’ve learnt over the years… Criticism, especially the painful kind, is an opportunity to improve.

An opportunity to pause and reflect.

To separate ego from growth.

To ask myself…

“Is there truth in this? Even if I didn’t like the delivery?”

“What can I do better next time?”

“How do I bounce back…not bitter, but better?”

The strongest people I know weren’t built through praise.

They were shaped in moments of chaos, doubt, and feedback that cut a little too deep.

You don’t have to love the criticism.

But don’t waste it either.

There’s power in using it to evolve. Think about it.

  1. Aunty, how do you deal with colleague and sub-ordinate that constantly need to be told on every single tasks you assigned to them. Simple and straight forward tasks. Procedures have been set. Advice has been given. Requested them to write down the tasks on their diary/notebook but I wonder if they do. Lack of Initiative, lack autonomy, dependable, absent minded, lack of competency, so on… sometime i just want to tell them to bring their brain to work but luckily i have not exploded. Its physically and mentally exhausted dealing with them.

    • I gave up on this group of people. So I take minutes, then I send it out. And when they don’t deliver, I take disciplinary action. I can because I have the privilege of being the boss. The hope is that they eventually will get better and follow my cue. Luckily, they did. So I pon kurang sakit hati eventually because I pat my shoulder for guiding them and coaching them well. Gitu.
