POV: “Tell me about your weakness.”

This interview question isn’t meant to catch you off guard. In fact, it’s a golden opportunity for candidates to demonstrate self-awareness, growth mindset, and how they’ve turned a personal challenge into a professional strength.

This is where we apply the “Weakness-to-Strength” Framework:
💬 “I used to struggle with [insert weakness], but I’ve become more aware of it and I’m actively working on it by [insert specific action]. It’s still a work in progress, but I’ve seen how it helps me in [insert positive outcome].”

Here are some examples:
🧼 Perfectionism or OCD Tendencies
⏩ I struggle with perfectionism. I sometimes find it hard to let go of small details. But I’ve become more aware of it and I try to manage it by setting time limits for tasks and asking peers sense-check my work. It’s still something I’m working on, but it helps me deliver high-quality results, especially when accuracy really matters.

🤐 Avoiding Conflict
⏩ I tend to avoid conflict because it feels easier not to confront. I’ve started working on this by learning how to speak up respectfully and assertively. I still hesitate sometimes, but I’ve improved at resolving tensions earlier.

💔 Taking Things Personally
⏩ I sometimes take feedback too personally, especially when I’ve put my heart into something. But I’ve been practicing separating myself from the work and focusing on the intent behind the feedback. I’m not perfect yet, but I’m getting better at seeing it as a tool for growth.

🗣️ Overtalking (this would be mine)
⏩ I tend to get a little too enthusiastic in discussions and often dominate conversations. I’m learning to pause more and actively invite others to speak. Honestly, I’m still working on it, but I’ve noticed that energy works really well when channeled into presentations.

Lastly, if you want to impress during this question, don’t fake humility. Be real. And also be ready to show that you’re not stuck.

All the best with your job interviews!
