This one, one of my hiring managers actually shared with me before. He told me he likes to look out for hobbies in the resume to gauge what kind of personality the candidate has.
Like, if they are into outdoor activities like camping or swimming, they’re probably more active. If they list reading or listening to music, it might imply they’re introverted.
I was like, “What?!”
I’m active, but I don’t like to camp or anything outdoorsy hahahahaha!
And I love music, but I am no introvert, okay!
I wouldn’t say they’re concerned about your hobbies.. it’s more like trying to get to know you better.
I like to view the hobby section in a resume as the “Fun Fact” corner. It adds personality.
And honestly, it can be a great conversation starter, especially if you and the hiring manager both share the same interest!
As for me? I love the pop culture.
So my hobbies include watching TV, listening to pop music, and browsing the internet to kepoh what’s happening right now.
What does it make me then? A fantabulous relationship manager/sales/influencer candidate?
You bet!
