Your Employment Contract Start Date

The other day, a follower asked, “Aunty, I started my job on the 2nd of June, but the 1st was a Sunday (rest day). The company didn’t pay me starting from the 1st. Is that allowed?”

It’s possible.

If your contract says you are appointed on 2nd June 2025, then yes.
It’s completely allowed, and in fact correct, for your pay to start from the 2nd.

But if your contract says 1st June 2025, then they must pay you from the 1st.
If the company wants to amend your start date in the contract, both parties must agree.

Whoever made the mistake here, I just want to say this.
It’s just one day.
The mistake is forgivable, so let it go.

But remember, always check your employment contract start date before signing on the dotted lines, next time.
