POV: Unlimited Leave Policies Are A Scam

On paper, it sounds too good to be true.
“Cutilah! Take as many days off as you want! No limits, no guilt.”
F-BS.

Employees often take less leave because of pressure.
They don’t want to be seen as abusing the system.
They fear judgement, “Why you always on holiday ah?”

And truthfully, if people were really taking too much time off, companies would never keep the policy.

It almost feels like companies implement as a cost-saving strategy, so they don’t need to carry unused leave in the books, while employees quietly take less than before.

Tbh, a healthy leave policy doesn’t need to be “unlimited.”

As leaders, what we need to do is normalise rest.
Start by setting the example by actually taking leave ourselves.
And encourage teams to unplug, without guilt.

Rest rightfully.

What do you think? Would you want unlimited leave in your company?
Or is “enough leave, guilt-free” better?
