POV: Exit Interview vs. Stay Interview

We all know what an exit interview is.
HR sits you down after you resign, asks why you’re leaving, bla bla bla…

But have you heard of a stay interview?

A stay interview is a proactive conversation with employees who are still with you.
It’s about finding out why they’ve stayed and… what might tempt them to leave.

I believe in stay interviews.

Problems surface earlier, and when we follow through, employees feel valued.
Don’t just care when they resign… Care while they’re still committed, right?

💡 My favourite questions to ask:
“What do you look forward to most when you come to work?”
“What’s one thing you wish we did differently?”
“How can we support you better in your role?”

Prevention is always better than post-mortem.
