Unpopular Opinion: Sick Leave Replacing Your Annual Leave

Employment Act 1955 Section 60E(1B) says this clearly:
If you fall sick during annual leave, those days should be treated as sick leave*, not annual leave.
*provided you have a valid medical certificate from a panel doctor certifying you unfit for duty

But many asked me, “Aunty, what if I fall sick during vacation overseas? Is this still valid?”

Technically, yes. You can still claim it back with a foreign doctor’s note.
But then comes the debate, “It’s not a panel clinic, is it valid?”
And honestly, some bosses may even think you’re being “demanding” or “calculative.”

Sometimes, the stress of arguing is worse than the sickness itself.

This is my (unpopular) opinion.
Annual leave is you taking a break from work.
Sick leave is also you taking a break from work.
If you’re already on holiday, focus on recovering and enjoy what’s left.

Let it be.

What do you think?
Would you fight to reclaim those days, or just let it go?
I’m curious.
