POV: Betting on Potential

I used to think that I was empowering people.
I saw who they could become.
Semangat, capable, and full of promise!

So I gave them important projects and extra responsibilities.
I even promoted some of them ahead of time.
Because good leaders believe in people’s potential.

Oh, how wrong I was!

I wasn’t really managing the person in front of me.
I was managing the future version of them, the one that didn’t exist yet.

So they struggled to keep up with my expectations.
I got frustrated. Very frustrated.

They have failed me just as much as I failed them.
Everybody lost.

Potential is beautiful, yes.
But it needs to meet readiness halfway.
Coach with structure. Guide with patience.

Otherwise, it’s just setting someone up to drown in good intentions.

Think about it.
