The other day, I was triggered by a conversation with a friend.
He so confidently told me, “Honestly, I feel HR today is incompetent. They only care about compliance. All they know is their administrative work. When the company has operations or people issues, HR doesn’t add value.”
I was like… WHAT?!
I rebutted, “That’s because your company didn’t hire strategic HR. And honestly, they don’t come cheap but many bosses don’t see the value in investing in one. That’s the real problem.”
Two years ago, I said this in an interview and my stand remains the same.
HR is undertrained.
The irony of it.
HR needs training, exposure, and the right development pathway to move beyond admin work.
So this is my recommendation.
SHRM Certification – a globally recognized HR credential that validates HR ability to apply strategic, business-driven HR skills in the workplace.
Aisling Professional Development is organising a SHRM Certification Prep Class from 12th to 14th December (online class). I must say it’s not cheap but it’s HRDC-claimable.
And if you are Bumiputera, you have the privilege of applying for up to 100% financing under Yayasan Peneraju.

Think about levelling up your HR game so nobody dares call us incompetent again.
