POV: The History of Resume

Did you know, the first resume was written by Leonardo da Vinci?

In 1482, he wrote to Ludovico Sforza (Duke of Milan) seeking employment as a military engineer, architect, and inventor.

It was more like a cover letter, actually.

In that letter, he outlined his experience in designing armoured vehicles, cannons, and other inventions.

Leonardo was eventually hired, and went on to stay around 17 years in Milan, serving the Duke’s court.

So even back then, a resume was never just about us.

It was about how we create value for someone else.

So when you write your resume today, ask yourself:

If a very important person is reading this document, what value are they seeing?

Always position ourselves better by making it clear why our value matters to them more than the opportunity matters to us.

Think about it.
