We presented two candidates to a client who was looking for someone to help build a set up a new department from scratch.
The first candidate had 15 years of experience managing large, established teams, with an impressive track record.
The second candidate had only 7 years of experience but had helped build a small team from the ground up, recruited people, developed processes and worked with limited resources.
Guess who got hired?
You are right, the second candidate.
My client explained that while the first candidate had more experience, the second candidate had the experience his company needed at that point in time.
He was the right fit.
Remember, you don’t have to be the best candidate in the market. But you do have to demonstrate why you’re the right candidate for the job.
Think about it.
