I have to admit. Sometimes it does irk me when I hear us, non-operations people, being categorized as “back office support”. It feels like as if we are less important because we are not “revenue generators”.
Am I the only one who feels this way?
But it’s okay I tell myself. Though we don’t bring in the big contracts to the company, we do focus on our duties behind the scenes to make sure the business runs smoothly. It’s not only HR. but also teams like Admin, Finance, IT, Compliance and even aunties who make sure the office is clean everyday. One must admit, without these departments structured to support, the business could become chaotic.
So in whatever position we are in, we should do our job with great pride. Appreciate the value of what we bring in the organization, even it’s just “back office support”. For without the bolts and nuts that hold the engine together, even a well-oiled engine will fall apart. And that is what I like to think how we are. The bolts and nuts, though small, we hold the business together to ensure it doesn’t fall apart.
