#Unitasking

Very often you hear the word “multitasking”, but in this book Unplugged: How to live mindfully in a digital world by Orianna Fielding, I learnt a new word – Unitasking.

Field said, “Another consequence of our digital ‘over-connectedness’ and our acute multitasking activities, and the lack of focus and attention that accompanied them, is that our people skills are also suffering thanks to a lack of practice.”

Here are some tips she then shared about Unitasking at work, which I find it not only will help us to focus, but also improve our time management by managing distractions.

1. Allocate a time every day in your schedule to unitask.

2. De-clutter your desktop.

3. Turn of all digital alerts.

4. Schedule a time to check your messages.

5. Tell your colleague you are taking time to unitask.

6. Take an “unplugged” break.

It does make sense. It’s like working in blocks of time. And as we practice to get into the rhythm, we will get better and quicker in things we do, improving quality & effeciciency.

Unitask. New thing I learnt today #TIL
