I posted this video on Tik Tok recently. There were quite a number of comments that said they are afraid to ask and be marked as ‘busybody’. Some said the interviewer won’t tell the reason why and even if they do, they won’t tell the truth anyways.
Well, to me, if that is the case, this is not a place I want to work at then. Trust is a big thing for me. Even if somebody failed at the job previously, it doesn’t mean I will too.
But in order for me to perform my job well, I need transparency. I don’t need to know everything but I do need to know enough, like why the previous person was not successful you think, if you get what I mean.
As much as the interviewer is evaluating us if we are suitable for the job, it goes vice versa too. We also want to know if this company and role is going to be suitable for us.
And that is why I think it is a good question to ask during an interview. It’s an opportunity to manage the right expectations & build trust at the get go.
