I have a short story to go with this. Last Thursday I had the privilege to be invited to attend the final presentation of our emerging young leaders in our New Leaders Program 2022.
In one of the presentation, they discussed about the issue of short of staff during peak period. One of team member is getting married and wanted 1 month leave – to prepare for the wedding & also to take time to immerse with her new life partner for a honeymoon.
Now honestly in this kind of situation, 2 weeks is indeed a long period, let alone 1 month. But all the senior leaders the meeting were in unison & agreed that when it comes to the employee’s wellbeing especially when one is celebrating a new chapter in such a big event like marriage, working out a plan to have her leave approved is the priority.
I have learnt building a good lasting relationship is much more than just checking the boxes.
