I was reading this today: A European strategist, Captain Johnstone, wrote in 1916: “You do not know how the enemy is disposed? Fight and find out. The decisive attack can only be confidently fixed after some fighting.”
It reminded me years ago I was managing the payroll team. The team kept telling me how difficult it is to run payroll with the current system. I have not run payroll in my life before, so I couldn’t fathom what they were really trying to tell me. I did not know how the enemy was disposed.
Hence, I decided to go to fight and find out.
I cleared my schedule and sat down with the payroll team. They taught me how to run payroll & I ran payroll myself with the system to experience the process myself what they are trying to tell me. Then I got it.
From there, I started to work on a strategy on how to fix the thing. Anyways, it was concluded the system was so broken, it actually would be cheaper if we just change it instead.
So we did just that.
