Let’s be honest, we all seek personal gain when searching for a new job – career progress, a fatter paycheck, and that sweet, sweet job satisfaction. But here’s the thing… we need to handle this question with finesse during the interview to show our genuine interest in the company’s success too.
Now, the word “expectations” can sometimes carry a more demanding connotation. So first things first, let’s rephrase that question in our head to “What are you LOOKING FORWARD to in this job/company?” instead so it can create this sense of anticipation and excitement.
Here is a guide what we should EXPECT!
E – Extensive Research. I can’t emphasize this enough, please don’t be so lazy, please do our homework and research on the company to understand the its values, mission and culture. Tailor our answers how we can align expectations with the company’s goals to demonstrate our preparedness.
X – X-Factor Alignment. Highlight how our unique skills and qualities align with the job and the company’s needs, making us the perfect fit and our excitement to make a difference.
P – Professional Growth. Express our expectations for opportunities to learn, develop new skills and advance our career within the company.
E – Engaging Atmosphere. Emphasize our desire for an environment that’s not just about work, but also a place where creativity, fun and collaboration thrive.
C – Compensation Celebration. Mention our expectations for fair compensation that puts a smile on our face and celebrates our hard work.
T – Treats and Accolades. If you, like me, are competitive, playfully mention our hope for sweet treats and well-deserved accolades to celebrate accomplishments and keep motivation high. We can also ask the interviewer, “Would you mind sharing with me what kind of recognition programs exist for my role in the company?” It shows our competitiveness and creates engaging conversations.
“In conclusion, here’s what I am looking forward from this job/company. Exciting opportunities, making a positive difference, continuous growth together, and the occasional treats.”
Happy weekend, everybody. I am expecting my weekend filled with joy and relaxation. Hope yours will be too =D
