“Aunty, any tips on how to be a good leader?”
Take a stroll down memory lane. Think about all the bosses you’ve every reported to – the great ones who inspired you, and the bad ones whom you wished were on a different planet.
What did the great bosses do that earned your respect? Did they lead by example? Were they supportive in times of difficulty? Did they give recognition when it was due? Emulate these qualities. These are the things that make a boss someone worth following.
And remember the bad bosses that made you scratch your head or even scream internally? What did they do that you found frustrating or demotivating? Did they belittle you? Were they poor communicators? Take note of these traits and ensure you don’t repeat the same mistakes.
Here’s the gem – both type of bosses have taught us priceless lessons. After all, being a good boss isn’t rocket science. It’s simply about treating others the way we’d want to be treated.
Remember, becoming a good boss isn’t about being perfect, but about continuous learning, adapting, and above all, treating people with respect and fairness.
Like that.
