We’ve decided to move on from our current job, and we’ve just handed in our resignation. Then, something expected/unexpected happens – our boss presents us with a counteroffer.
Before we jump at the chance to stay, remember this: Counteroffers are often like temporary fixes to long-term problems. If the boss valued us so much, why did it take my our resignation for them to make changes?
So before we decide, ask these vital questions. We STAY?
💰 S – SALARY: Is the counter offer financially competitive and aligned with our expectations?
🫂 T – TEAM & CULTURE: Will staying still allow us to work with a team we enjoy and within a culture that fits our values?
🚀 A – ADVANCEMENT: Does the counter offer provide a clear path for career advancement and growth within the company?
🫵 Y – YOU: Personal goals, work-life balance, job satisfaction, stress level, gut feelings. Questions, questions, questions.
While counteroffers can be tempting, they don’t always lead to lasting job satisfaction. But then again, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Think about the new opportunity we had accepted. Will staying put truly make us happier and more fulfilled?
Trust our instincts, stick to our goals, and whatever it is, keep moving forward.
