Today, I stopped by FamilyMart to grab myself a cup of Sparkling Yuzu Green Tea and my husband a cup of Iced Americano. While waiting for the drinks, I noticed a crew member, not a supervisor, patiently guiding a newbie through the process. It seems like working in a convenience store now requires some barista skills too!
This crew member took the time to teach the ropes, explaining every detail to the trainee. I’d bet the company didn’t pay him extra for this mentoring role, but that’s okay. Here’s the thing to remember, as Steven Covey wisely said: Be. Do. Have.
To be a great leader, you have to practice being one whenever the opportunity arises. Even when you’re not earning extra, you’re learning and gaining a beautiful attribute to add to your resume. It’s excellent interview material to showcase your leadership potential. With this experience, you’re better equipped to find a company that recognizes your leadership skills.
Remember, becoming a leader means embodying the role, doing what leaders do, and eventually, you’ll have that leadership position. Be the person, Do what the person does and eventually, you will Have the person’s job.
So, embrace these opportunities to lead, learn, and grow.
Happy weekend, everybody! Tomorrow I will be in town for the MY BIG SHOW concert at Sg Wang. If you do happen to see me there, come say hello!
