Bonus with a Bond

“Is it legal”

Technically speaking, yes. Just like training bond, it’s not compulsory for the company to send you for training or award you with a bonus since it’s not a mandatory wage. Thus, the company can implement terms and conditions that come with the bonus payout, including a bond.

But here’s my take – if you’re giving a reward to your staff for a job well done, do it sincerely and with a generous heart. If they decide to leave after receiving the bonus, we shouldn’t hold it against them. After all, it’s compensation for work already completed.

Moreover, loyalty isn’t what it used to be. However, we want to work with those who choose to stay, not because they are obligated to stay, if it makes sense.
