Dear Recruiters,
I have made many mistakes during my 20 years in recruitment agencies and here’s one of them.
I understand that after interviewing all day, the mere thought of having to meet and greet another candidate with a friendly smile can be exhausting.
However, we also need to remember that while this might be the 10th candidate we’re seeing today, for them, it might be the first interview they’ve secured in a while. They are likely excited and nervous to meet us. So, don’t snap.
Take a sip of water, roll our shoulders back, and march on to interview the candidate as if they are the first candidate we’ve had the pleasure to meet in a long time. Whether the candidate is performing or not during the interview, remember to create a great experience for them to remember because that is the power of the recruiter.
We channel hope.
Be candid with our feedback to help them get better, even if they are not shortlisted. Find the pride in our job. You’ve got this!
