POV: Living with Covid-19

Well, KKM has announced that effective 15th July 2024, no Home Surveillance Order (HSO) will be required for positive Covid-19 cases.

Speaking of which, the other day a doctor messaged me asking, “Why can’t employees just use the HSO to get sick leave and insist the clinic issue a medical certificate because we felt it’s unnecessary since the government said they can use the HSO.”

I explained that the government actually just “urged” the employers to accept the HSO certificate via MySejahtera and did not really made it mandatory. Hence, many employers will still insist on having an official MC from the clinic.

I can’t say I’m surprised. I have personal friends who actually fake their Covid tests just to get the 5 days MC, okay…. So I can understand why employers insist on the official MC.

Anyway, after explaining that to the doctor, he said, “Okay la like that, I shall issue the MC moving forward.”

And now, since HSO is no longer a requirement, I would think Covid is going to be treated like another common flu. So the process of obtaining sick leave should be the same as if we are down with the flu.
