Aaahhhh… the famous Marie Kondo who became one of Time’s 2015 100 most influential people for influencing millions around the globe to declutter.
This morning I was watching her latest show Sparking Joy in Netflix and she said something that really tickled me.
She said something along the line that we must respect the objects and not treat objects like just objects. I was like, woman, we can’t even get people to treat other people like just people.
Then it got me thinking, what if I apply her KonMari methods at work, replacing objects with people:
- Commit yourself to tidy up the organization.
- Imagine your ideal organization chart.
- Finish retrenching first. Before getting rid of employees, sincerely thank each employee for serving his/her purpose.
- Tidy by department, not location.
- Follow the right order.
- Ask yourself if the employee sparks joy.
Not funny? But it damn sounds familiar! And of course it’s not funny when we KonMari people at work because we people are not fucking objects.
So people, please, please, remember to treat other people like people.
