POV: Regulating HR in Malaysia

HR in this country is not regulated very well. It seems like any Tom, Dick, or Harry can become a HR professional.

When I first came out to the public to educate everybody about their basic employment rights on social media, I was appalled to discover how many incompetent so-called HR professionals are out there. The disturbing part is that many didn’t ask for the job – they were simply assigned to it because there was no one else available. Often, without proper training.

So, here’s my proposal.

If a company has at least 20 employees, it should be required to have at least one person who has attended a 5-day course covering all aspects of HR. For companies of this size, they would have contributed to the HRDC levy, so we can make this course HRDC claimable to minimise the cost impact.

Business owners need to understand that the heart of any business is the people who work it. We need competent HR professionals to ensure that the boss is getting the right advice to make informed decisions about employee welfare. Barulah maju macam tu.

What do you think? Let me know.
