Let’s be real. Kindness isn’t always reciprocated in the workplace.
You help a colleague meet their deadline, but when you’re swamped, they’re suddenly “too busy.”
You cover someone’s shift, but when you ask for the same favour, they “forgot.”
You share your expertise, but they take the credit like it was all their idea.
Bitter? A little. Frustrating? Absolutely.
I know kindness isn’t a currency we should invest in and expecting returns. But… when kindness isn’t reciprocated, it does hurt! It makes us question why we even bother, right anot?
Here’s the truth, though – the workplace needs kindness to achieve harmony. When kindness is genuinely reciprocated, it creates a ripple effect. A helping hand today becomes a stronger team tomorrow (as cliche as it sounds). A small thank-you today becomes a culture of gratitude, don’t you think?
So, here’s my plea to all of us – leaders, colleagues, teammates.
If someone supports you, support them back.
If someone’s kind to you, don’t just acknowledge it, pay it forward too.
If you’ve overlooked someone’s effort, make it right.
Let’s be the reason someone feels valued, not bitter.
Happy weekend, everybody! The workplace needs more kindness, not less. So yes, let’s reciprocate kindness together.
