Besides the M, the R for Relatable is also very important.
Every year, when it’s time to set goals, I always start by understanding what my boss wants to achieve for the company. Because my success, my teams’s success, and my boss’s success are all connected.
First, I figure out my boss’s objectives and align my team’s goals to support those objectives. Then, I make sure my personal goals as a leader are tied to my team’s goals. Think of it like this:
Help the Boss –> Help the Team
Help the Team –> Help Yourself
When my team is successful, I am successful. When I deliver results, my boss wins too. It’s all interconnected. The success ladder is built on alignment, not isolation.
So, here’s my advice for all the leaders and team members out there:
• Understand your boss’s vision. Sit down and ask, “What are aiming for this year?”
• Set your team’s goals in alignment with that vision. Break it down into manageable objectives.
• Tie your own goals to your team’s goals. Be invested in their success.
When everything ties together, success becomes inevitable. It’s like a well-oiled machine where every part works toward the same destination.
Remember, help others win, and you’ll win too!
