Street Feeding

Sukh was the one who introduced me to Street Feeders of KL.

Every Wednesday night, there will be a big group of us volunteers gathered in Central Market to help to distribute food to our street friends around KL City. Here, I’ve chatted with many of them on how they ended up on the streets.

Yes, we can argue that it’s consequences from them choosing the wrong path in their past, especially drugs. So some does think giving them food is like encouraging them to continue to slack. But like what my ex would tell me, nobody grows up choosing to be a beggar, let alone homeless.

All of us make mistakes, so sometimes we just need that little help/boost so we can get back up on our feet again. I still remember Sukh & I will tell each other, hopefully we don’t see this person anymore under the bridge next week, crossing our fingers they have found a roof/job elsewhere.

During this period of time, I’ve also came to realise how we take the simplest things for granted, like having a hot meal, a roof over our head. And clean water. Every street friend I’ve met will ask, “do you have drinking water?”.

That is why till today, when I see a street friend, I will get them a bottle of drinking water. They truly appreciate it, more than the food we give actually.

Splashing a little kindness.
