The other day I attended a HBS Master Class. Professor Boris Grosyberg, who is the author of Chasing Stars: The Myth of Talent and the Portability of Performance drew this chart in the class.
The chart makes so much sense:
- A lot of times, when a new person comes in, the ones that we fail to integrate him/her with are the peers and the team.
- Peers feel the threat.
- Team does not trust.
- And the most important one is in the center, we always neglected to integrate the employee’s family. Esp after this pandemic, it was a good wake up call, how important work life balance is. How we take each other’s family for granted.
Prof then said, “Integration is a discipline. Do it right and the ROI can be up to 400%.” I couldn’t agree more.
I really got me thinking, how flawed most organization’s onboarding plan is, including ours.
