I read an interesting statement today: Happiness is habit forming,
What does that really mean? What it means is that you can “train” yourself to be happy. The more you train yourself, the easier it is to be happy.
But isn’t “true” happiness supposed to be effortless? Well, I’ve learnt nothing is really effortless. Everything we have is actually earned. Some things might take more effort, some might take lesser.
Of course, there are dark days too, we can’t be happy all the time. But as cliche as it sounds, without the lows, we won’t be able to appreciate the highs as much.
So how do we find happiness at work? I would suggest start with doing something that we are really good at already. It could be things as simple as completing a payroll report or balancing the accounts or engaging with 10 clients. That way, we can get into a therapeutic rhythm, which will boost our confidence & self-esteem.
And because we are so good at it, it will be kinda’ effortless after all.
