I started out my career in Key Accounts Management.
When I was hired by Kelly Services on 1 Dec 2004, besides functioning as a front desk & office admin, I was to assist the Account Manager in managing the branch’s Top 5 customers. Eventually she left & I took over the role.
Fast forward to 18 August 2005, our then GM cum country head called for a meeting. For the first time, all the account managers from our country’s top 25 accounts from all over the country gathered to brainstorm how to improve our account management tactics and strategies. I was managing 3 of them back then.
First thing I noticed in that meeting was 90% of us were women in the conference room. All of us were very good at our job, bringing in 80% of the company’s revenue. It was a really, really good meeting that it had inspired the young and ambitious me in the years to come to excel in Key Accounts Management.
Eventually, I was assigned to manage the country’s top accounts and those were some of the best years in my career. Yes, it’s tense but it’s also exhilarating at the same time when you’re responsible for the satisfaction of the company’s VVIP customers. It was also probably when I started to learn how important a Customer Experience is to develop a business.
With best endeavour, everything we do must sing superior service. Deliver the great Customer Experience. Service kena meletop. And if we do that consistently, from experience I can also tell you to take the time to sit back and enjoy the praises being sung back to us. From the most important clients, no less.
