#SayingSorry

“If you are saying sorry for the sake of saying it, then don’t bother!”

Well, it’s true. But I really meant it. So why was it not accepted as being sincere? Here are some mistakes I have made when apologizing in the past that I have learnt to correct.

One. It wasn’t short nor simple. That meant…

Two. There were “if” and “buts”. Mistake to craftily insert a reason. Because no matter how legit the reason was, it would only turn out to be another excuse.

Three. I texted. Because it’s just too easy to type “I’m sorry for being a jerk”. That might be enough for small mistakes. But if I really screwed up big time, it warrants a call at least or do it in person. Might even need to send a gift with balloons.

Four. I focused on the other’s person response instead of my own behaviour. This were when I said useless lines like, “I’m sorry you feel that way” or “I’m sorry my words made you upset”. It’s not an accountability contest. Instead, I should had said, “I was wrong and I won’t do it again.”

Five. And really mean it that I won’t do it again.
