Just like any other hiring managers, I interview candidates before hiring. Besides the main objective of assessing their suitability for the role, my interview goals are also:
1. To make sure they understand the objective of the role they are coming in for. I want the candidates to have a clear and accurate understanding of the job so I take the time to articulate the information to them.
2. With reference to (1), to also warn them what could go wrong with the job. It does sound very discouraging but I don’t want it to come to where they’ll tell me why I didn’t tell them so. I want them to be prepared for the worst too.
3. To tell them what I am expecting out of them for it’s truly not easy working with me. I also take the opportunity to ask the same of them for we don’t want to disappoint each other at the end of the day just because we didn’t iron out our expectations at the get go.
And I also realised when I did my 1, 2, 3, by listening & observing their reactions, it gave me the opportunity to understand the candidates better. So when we do decide to work together, it can be harmoniously better.
