Shine Together

Last night I received a call from a dear friend. He was asking about our MYSTEP program where we help the unemployed graduates by providing them classroom and on-the-job trainings to elevate their employability in the market.

His first question was, “Can they speak well in English?”

Well, honestly speaking, out of 10 graduates we recruit, probably one of them can. But this is what I can tell you. They are very smart and very hardworking. All they need is an opportunity with the right guidance.

6 out of 7 people I have in my Service Ops team, I recruited them from the MYSTEP program. Out of 6 of them, 4 of them spoke & wrote terrible English. Like most fresh grads, they were also more blur than any sotongs when they first started with me.

But over the years, I saw them putting in the effort to learn and strived to be better everyday. Now, my Service Ops team is one of the best performing team I had ever managed.

The 4 of them speaks & writes average English now. And no longer the sotongs they were, now they are sharper than me in terms of knowledge in their respective fields.

They are independent, resourceful, and what I love most about them, they are very, very humble.

So yes, don’t just shut them off just because they don’t speak English well. They are much more than that. Trust me. I know. Give them an opportunity and also an opportunity for ourselves to groom them.

And watch them shine together with us.

Happy weekend everybody. xoxoxo
