Don’t Lie

“If I lied about my salary in my previous company, will I get fired?”

“Yes.”

————————–(<.><.>)——————————

It’s called a pre-employment lie.

This is very clear as demonstrated in case law Eden Ferringi Resort vs Lisa Tan Thuan Li in 2004.

When applying for employment, Lisa stated her last drawn salary was RM1,600. Based on that information and also because Eden Ferringhi was nice, they offered her RM1,800. Turned out she was only earning RM1,200. The company found out she lied and dismissed her.

She sued. But the Industrial Court upheld the dismissal because a pre-employment lie of making false declaration regarding your employment history details is a serious misconduct justifying dismissal. As simple as that.

So, moral of the story is, don’t lie.
