#Question: We are hiring a contract staff for less than 12 months, can we pro-rate the Sick Leave entitlement accordingly?
#Answer: Hmmm… yes and no.
Well, first we need to know whether the employee is under the ambit of Employment Act 1955. If the employee is, then no.
If the employee is not covered by EA1955, then yes. The employee will be entitled to whatever benefits that is spelled out in the contract, including how many days of sick leave the company would like to grant.
However, how we want to attract good talents today is important. That includes giving good & fair benefits, if it makes sense.
