My first formal interview for a permanent job was during my final year exams. I was so eager to come out to earn my own money, I started to apply for jobs even before I finished school.
I remember it was an SME located in Cheras. The job was a sales engineer to sell this machine that will automate manufacturing processes.
Before the interview started, the company gave me a form. In the form, there was this question asked, “Who pays your salary?” I don’t quite remember what answer I wrote down but till today I remember the answer the boss suggested.
He said, “The customers always pay our salary.” That answer totally blew that freshie mind of mine. Because it does make so much sense!
Just like how Henry Ford said it, right? “It is not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It is the customer who pay the wages.”
So every time we need to deal with difficult customers, we tahan dulu. To our best endeavours, we shall remember that they are paying our salary. Gitu.
