Hello. This is Prema.
She first messaged me on LinkedIn & asked me out for lunch.
When I first met her in person at Village Roast Duck, I must say she looks fantastic for her age (don’t ask me her age, k!).
During lunch we talked about the hybrid work culture which she is passionate about and providing consultancy services in that subject even. But the one that really got us all riled up is ageism. Just because both of us look younger than our age, it didn’t matter to recruiters actually. So we do wonder why are we being discriminated?
Is it because they find us intimidating?
Is it because they think we cannot report to a younger manager?
Is it because they feel we are so outdated & not up to speed with the ever changing techy world?
Is it because it’s hard to teach old dogs new tricks?
Well, I don’t know about you guys but Prema and myself do not check any of the boxes above. Well, the first box maybe. But then again, till you speak to us personally, you will never know! So recruiters & hiring managers out there, please. Please.
Age is not just a number, it is a number indeed. Every year of experience counts. Every year of maturity counts. And we old gingers did survived longer comparatively, which is a testimonial of our ability to adapt.
Think about it.
