The other day during my Live session, a viewer asked, “Where is the best place to look for a job?” I countered back with, “Why don’t you tell me where is the best place to look for all of you? Because I cannot find you all in Facebook already!”
Honestly, I still think job boards are the easiest way but then again, everybody is there so it’s getting very competitive! How about…
1. Use Social Media Creatively – Instead of just kepoh celebrities lives, one of my friends told me she follows/connects with people in her field of interest. LinkedIn is always the best because people are constantly posting hiring posts. And, it’s also a great way to attract talents.
2. Attend Events/Conferences – Be it virtual or physical, a lot of companies are now hosting events/webinars that can be a great opportunity to learn about job openings & connect with potential employers. Like this coming Friday, 3rd March 2023, I am invited to The Awesome Career Fair Vol. 6 organized by Hiredly.
3. Job Shadowing – Reach out to professionals in your field of interest and ask if you can shadow them for a day (or two) to learn about the industry and get a feel of the job. Besides finding out more about the job, it’s a very good way to connect with new people and learn about job opportunities.
4. Create Your Own Job – Well, when all things fail, remember you still have you. If you have a skill or idea, consider creating your own job instead by starting a business or perhaps freelancing. Not only you will be working on your own terms, it can also be a great opportunity to showcase your talents to potential clients who can be your potential employers too, if it makes sense.
It’s very competitive world indeed now. The key is to be proactive, creative and most importantly persistent. Be fearless to try new approaches and don’t get stuck inside the box!
