Today I was reminded of a simple but powerful line from the movie “Air,” directed by Ben Affleck: “A shoe is just a shoe until someone steps on it.” It’s a reminder that the true value of something depends on how it’s used to create meaning.
The same is true for knowledge. Whether we’re learning algebra in math class, the Bernoulli principle in physics class, or about clauses in the Employment Act, the knowledge can only be meaningful if we know how to apply it.
Whether you’re learning a new skill, attending a webinar, or reading a textbook, knowledge is meaningful if only you take action with it. It’s not enough to simply accumulate information – you have to put that knowledge to work if … You. Want. To. See. Results.
So let’s act on knowledge. Use it to solve a problem, creating something new or make a positive change in my life and/or work. Don’t let knowledge go to waste – put it into action and see what happens.
After all, “A knowledge is just a knowledge until you act on it.”
