Throughout my 20 years of career, I’ve reported to 1, 2, 3… 19, 20, 21 – OMG, I’ve lost count. That’s more than 20 bosses in 5 companies. Some lasted a few months, while some lasted for years. But there is always something I managed to learn from each and everyone of them.
May Chong was one of the longer-serving boss whom I had the privilege to learn from. One of the valuable lessons I’ve learned from her is that as bosses, it’s important for us to show up.
In branch outings, company meetings, when there is a critical project on site, an awards ceremony, or a team member’s wedding lunch – bosses need to show up not only physically to provide support but also at our best.
