A while ago, someone reached out to me on social media, interested in collaborating with me as an influencer to promote their products. Naturally, I thought, why not? I suggested a meeting to better understand their needs, which would then allow me to share a tailored rate.
Their response? That’s not how they conduct business. They simply wanted my rate card, just like they’d received from ‘other influencers.’
Let me be clear. I’m not here to add to someone’s rate-card collection. I don’t operate like “any other influencers.” If you seek bespoke services, then engage in a bespoke conversations. It’s as simple as that.
“Wah, aunty you hurt my feelings.”
Well, darling, this ‘diva aunty’ values the integrity of her work and knows the value she brings. I’m not in the business of sending rate cards without context. All I’m asking is for you to come meet me in the middle.
If you want to collaborate with someone of my background and experience I’m all for building bridges, not barriers. If you’re looking for a collaboration, let’s have a genuine conversation about it. If a conversation to understand mutual expectations is seen as an offense, then maybe we weren’t a good fit to begin with.
I refuse to apologise for standing by my values.
