Starting a new job is an exciting adventure, but before we sign on the dotted line, it’s crucial to carefully examine our offer letter. One way to ensure we’re making a sound decision is by keeping an eye on the numbers.
C – Compensation. This is the financial heart of our offer. Beyond the basic salary, understand how our compensation is structured – fixed allowances, bonuses, profit-sharing etc. Companies often sweeten the deal with various perks, so we ensure it aligns with our expectations and industry standards.
A – Annual Leave. Our well-deserved time off matters. While the minimum annual leave requirement is 8 days per annum, many companies offer more to attract top talent, especially higher positions. Higher positions often come with extra leave days.
S – Schedule. Our working hours can greatly impact our work-life balance and overtime pay. For those earning less than RM4K monthly in West Malaysia & Labuan or less than RM2.5K monthly in Sabah & Sarawak, clarify if overtime hours apply and what they entail. Knowing this can prevent surprises and ensure that we’re compensated fairly for extra effort.
H – Health Insurance. While health insurance isn’t mandatory (outside SOCSO), it’s a vital benefit. Review our contract to confirm whether we’re covered for hospitalization and medical expenses. Our well-being matters, and a good health insurance plan can provide peace of mind.
As the saying goes, the devil is often in the details. So, be vigilant and go through our offer letter with the CASH checklist. Negotiate when necessary, and don’t hesitate to seek clarification. Our financial well-being and job satisfaction depend on it!
Remember, knowledge is power. An informed decision today leads to a more satisfying career tomorrow.
