As of today 7th November 2023, Tuesday, when this book is being drafted:
1. If you work in Semenanjung Malaysia or WP Labuan, the Employment Act 1955 has got your back.
2. With effective 1st January 2023, all employees are protected by the Act, regardless of your salary. Previously, it was limited to those earning monthly wages of up to RM2,000 only.
3. In Sabah and Sarawak, the story changes a bit. They operate under the Sabah Labour Ordinance and the Sarawak Labour Ordinance.
4. However, these Labour Ordinances only protect employees with monthly wages up to RM2,500.
5. If you earn more than RM2,500 per month in Sabah or Sarawak, your employment contract is your best friend. It outlines your rights.
6. In conclusion, for everyone in Peninsular Malaysia and WP Labuan, the Employment Act is your safety net.
7. Folks in Sabah and Sarawak, check how much you earn and look to your contract to know your rights.
