In hiring, there are interesting observations I’ve made.
One hiring manager I know tends to shortlist resumes from fresh Chinese female candidates without hesitation, while other resumes are meticulously scrutinised. Contrast this with another manager who diligently reviews every resume, regardless of race or gender. Interestingly, the latter manager consistently achieves better retention rates. Is it merely a coincidence?
Actually, when it comes to hiring top talent, limiting your scope based on specific demographics is never a good strategy. By naturally widening the diversity in your candidate pool, you inadvertently pave the way for a more diverse and robust team. It’s not about filling quotas, but recognising the strength that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences.
From my experience, inclusivity in hiring builds stronger, more dynamic teams. Often, I see this approach leads to better retention and overall performance. Or is this also just merely another coincidence?
