Question: If my leave has already been approved, can my boss cancel my leave and demand that I return to work?
Response: Yes, they can. However, it requires your agreement to it. The company cannot penalise you for their poor planning of resources, especially when you have already paid for flight tickets to the Maldives!
Question: If my leave has already been approved, but I want to cancel it, can my boss reject my request?
Response: No, they can’t, and they shouldn’t. Annual leaves are for your own leisure, and if you are so fickle-minded about it, the company should just accommodate. Especially if they want a harmonious relationship with you.
Question: My leave was approved, but then, suddenly, the government declared a public holiday on the same day. What now?
Response: In this case, the company should credit back the leave back to you since the public holiday overrides it. However, if it’s a state-declared holiday, the company may not ecognise it, but if it’s declared by the Prime Minister, then for sure they need to replace it.
This is the time HR might grumble about reversing everyone’s leave, but it needs to be done =D
Question: Man, I gpt sick on my annual leave. Can I get an MC and cancel my leave to save it for later?
Response: Man, this is a tricky one. Technically speaking, you can. It is indeed written in the Employment Act 1955 60E(1B) that you can replace your annual leave with sick leave. However, be careful with that, I know a lot of bosses don’t like it. And if you are on your vacation in the Maldives and fall ill (knock on wood), technically speaking also, when you are on sick leave, you should not be on vacation.
So yeah, be careful with that.
