As a young leader, I made the mistake of expecting my team to understand things as quickly as I did. I was quick with numbers, so grasping the P&L sheet was easy-peasy for me. I struggled to understand why others found it difficult since I didn’t. I was less patient and often brushed them aside for not being able to keep up with me.
Then one day, my boss sat me down and told me to adjust my expectations. That moment taught me a valuable leadership lesson – not everyone learns at the same pace, and my role was to support them, not judge their abilities based on mine.
