HR is a busybody and suka jaga tepi kain orang. Well, what do you expect?
HR’s job is literally about managing people – their careers, their well-being, their conflicts, and yes, sometimes even their drama.
Most of the time…
HR doesn’t go looking for gossip – people bring it straight to us!
If HR knows something, it’s probably because it’s affecting the workplace.
HR doesn’t kepoh for fun all the time, it’s all in the name of fairness (ahaks!).
Joking aside, if an employee is struggling, if there’s an unpleasant working environment, of if someone is being harassed, HR cannot just pretend not to see, can we? HR’s busybody nature is about keeping things running smoothly before everything turns chaotic.
We also need to know if you’re married, single, or have kids – not because we kepoh, but because it affects your insurance coverage, benefits and tax calculations. Imagine if HR didn’t check, and you ended up missing out on something important?
That being said… HR also doesn’t need to micromanage people’s lives (we are very busy ourselves with tonnes of paperwork wei). The best HR teams know when to step in and when to mind their own business.
Having our ears on the ground helps us understand and support. Being in the know to make things better – together 😉
